Hey folks, we hope that popover-appropriate weather is quickly approaching where ever you are! Almost every popover has finally been sent out to our Kickstarter backers. That feels really good to finally share.
Dhanmondi & Sadarghat popovers arrived a few weeks ago, along with some totes, pocket squares, and bandanas. Our very first shipment! Many of these went out to backers already, and it’s been exciting to see folks already wearing them in the wild. This is how they get to us. Or at least the post office in Dhaka, thanks to our pal Xitu here.
Our trip at the end of September marked our first time experiencing the tail-end of the monsoon season in Bangladesh. Mornings were hot and muggy, but by mid-afternoon the looming clouds erupted onto the rice paddies surrounding the factory. The deluge sounded like a landslide falling on the building's metal roof, a surprisingly spectacular experience for us. But the rains sure don't slow things down there.
As you all know, we reached well beyond our stated goal, which has been incredible and couldn’t have happened without all 241 of you. We’re excited that this is just the beginning for New Market Goods, and over the next few weeks we’ll be working on the next phases of getting off the ground with production.
Founded by artists, developed as a small community of artisans, producing their own line, still sourcing textiles from hand-loom communities. Their methods may not be fully applicable to the mega factories that produce runs for fast-fashion lines. But it’s extremely important to share what they’re doing, contributing to the growing number of producers that are both responsible and successful.
